Visiting Santa's house in North Pole Alaska in July

Image
Thursday July 5 I didn't  sleep much last night, it rained all night and all morning so we slept in a bit. I got up and got groceries, ice and gas. It quit raining and Julie  had just gotten up when i got back so we packed up the trailer, filled the gerry can with gas and left the gas station just before 11am.   We drove about 20min to the famous crepe shop in north pole Alaska  and had crepes for breakfast. I had cream cheese and strawberry, Julie  had cheese-less   Hawaiian , the kids had egg and cheese. Breakfast took an hour but was really, really good- i almost couldn't  finish mine, Julie was full and the kids couldn't  finish theirs even though we were all really hungry because it was getting close to noon before we got our food. It was a fun place too, the owners seemed to enjoy it and you got to watch them making your food. We went to Santa's house after. Santa was there, just like he is every day of the year there. Its also basically a

Seeing baby reindeer and musk ox, then a sled dog museum in Fairbanks

American Independence day in Fairbanks We slept in because I was really sore and tired from all the gold panning. For breakfast we plugged our toaster into the inverter in the car and had toasted bagels. We love to have our toaster along! First we drove to the Fairbanks Information Center, which it turned out, also has a good sized museum in it. We enjoyed reading about different winners of the Iditarod, learning a bit about oil pipelines in Alaska, and also some native stuff, most of which we'd seen in different places. In the part about native elders, there was a Bible verse one of the elders had put up there, that was really neat. We went to the Large Animal Research Station for their noon tour, but we were a little disappointed, because the tour was super short, and we couldn't even go up to the fence to see the animals. It is the only musk ox research center  in the world, but I'd give it a miss, unless you are really into musk ox and have binoculars.
